A Typical Week with Sarah's Sanctuary
All students at Sarah's Sanctuary attend 2 full class days, Thursdays and Fridays, each week.
Classes are filled with both personal and group projects with students creating both handwritten work and documents on their iPads. Core subjects are generally covered in the mornings, with assorted Arts and Design & Technology projects, that suit the students interests, being completed in the afternoons. Student participation is encouraged, with students sharing their work on screen via Apple TV, together with discussion and feedback. No homework is set with all work completed in class time. This is in the form of written and iPad work, class discussions and activities, Maths programs (online or textbook) and activities as well as themed assessment work. Our lifeskills program at the moment focusses on teamwork as well as the use of public transport as students travel together to assorted venues throughout the year. We are currently using the Team App (on iPad or phone) to be able to communicate, to both parents and students, what has happened in class for the week ready for home discussions and moderator reporting. Please note: Students are still enrolled with the Education Department as homeschooled and have a moderator. As such, the parent is accountable for their child's education and ultimately in control of their child's week.
Sarah's Sanctuary provide a full curriculum, which moderators are happy with. Some students who still struggle with reading/writing and have extra programs they are working on at home, are encouraged to continue with these as most of our classes are very eclectic, covering English generally, and do not offer remedial support specifically. Students are also encouraged to be a part of a sporting group or have a Physical Education plan for home. |
